Have you ever gone to the grocery store without a shopping list? Have you ever gone to the grocery store without a shopping list and hungry? What happened? My guess is that you wandered up and down the aisles, not knowing what you wanted and simply grabbed for the things that looked good to you. What happened when you ended up at the cashier and he or she rang up the bill? When you saw how much it really was, did you ask the cashier, "Are you sure everything cost that much?". Then when you got home, did you look at everything and say to yourself, "What was I thinking? Did I really want all this? I cannot return this food, they won't take it back, this stuff cost me a small fortune!"

Let me ask you this, what would have happened if you had made up a shopping list ahead of time? What would have happened if you went through the fridge and through the cupboards and asked yourself, "What do I really want from the grocery store?". What would have happened if you had lunch, or dinner before you made up your list and went to the grocery store? Chances are, you would have been prepared for all those "obstacles", such as going to the grocery store hungry, going without the famous shopping list, not knowing what it was you really wanted.

So, what does this have to do with clarity? Everything! The shopping list is actually a "list of goals you want to accomplish", and every time something on that list has been achieved, you simply check it off. Here is another question for you, do you have a list of goals you want to achieve, or do you wander around through life, not knowing what it is you want? The list of goals is simply a shopping list, and here are some steps you can take to create a list of goals. I don't know what it is you want, but if you follow these simple steps, they will work for you.

1) Know what it is you want:

Sit down and start "brain storming" different ideas of what it is you want. Be clear (clarity) and be specific. The more clear and specific you are, the easier it is to know what you want.

2) Give yourself permission to not know what it is you want:

So often when I ask people, "What is it you want in life, what do you want to do?". They usually respond with, "I don't know". This is when I say to them, "I know you don't know, but if you did know, or pretended to know, what do you think it might be?". What I did, was I got  them to give themselves permission to not know. Once you give yourself permission, ideas begin to flow.

3) Dream big, there are no limitations:

Dream big, there are no limitations to what you can do, only you can limit yourself. I used to talk to students at schools and I always told this true story, I still tell it to people of all ages. Many years ago, I was walking from my sisters place, I was taking the bus then and there is long road that is so nice to walk and see the scenery of the water, islands, etc. I was walking up this road and got about half way up, when I heard the strangest sound, it was a "clop thump, clop thump" sound and it stopped right behind me. I turned and looked and saw a young man standing there, out of breath and he said to me, "I need to take a break". I looked down and saw he only had one leg and and one artificial leg. We started walking together, talking and he told me his dream how he wanted to run to raise money. I introduced myself and said, "My name is David, David Lang, what's your name". He introduced himself, he said, "My name is Terry, Terry Fox and I am going to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research". This was long before I was a professional speaker and long before I knew anything about personal development, so I said to him, "Good luck and I hope you make your dream come true". Six months later I saw him on television getting ready to start his run and I thought to myself, "Miracles do happen".

He dreamed a big dream and made it come true. No matter where you go on this planet, you ask anybody, "Who is Terry Fox?", and they will tell you all about him.

So go ahead, dream big with no limitations

4) Write down your goals:

Write down your goals and make copies, put these copies of your goals in places you can see them, where you will be aware of them at all time. Everytime you see them, remind yourself how important they are to you.

5) Be grateful for your goals:

Say thank-you, for every time you read your goals, this is giving gratitude, your subconscious mind loves this. Read your goals over every day at least twice a day and every time you read each goal, say thank-you

6) One goal at a time and check them off:

Achieve one goal at a time and check off each goal as you achieve them. This way you do not feel overwhelmed when you see everything you have written down. When you check them off, you end up with a feeling of accomplishment.

7) Give yourself a pat on the back:

This is the most important part, give yourself a pat on the back when you achieve each goal. Again, your subconscious mind loves recognition and the more recognition you give yourself, the better you feel. You end up with the feeling of wanting to do more!

Now you have the steps to make up your "shopping list" and you now know to be clear and specific, go out there and have fun!!!
